GABC, Pittsburgh Rotary Club Foundation Launch $2,500 Scholarship for Studies in Germany
PITTSBURGH, PA, USA - Feb. 19, 2014 – The German American Business Circle of Pittsburgh is partnering with the Pittsburgh Rotary Club Foundation to launch a $2,500 scholarship. It is intended to benefit collegiate-level students in Western Pennsylvania who demonstrate academic excellence and strong interest in German-American business affairs and culture, and who plan to further their studies at an accredited institution of higher learning in Germany.
To be eligible, the applicant must be a high school senior accepted to an accredited university or college; or a first-year undergraduate student already enrolled in German studies at the university/college level. The applicant also must currently attend or be an alumnus of a high school in the 10-county Southwestern Pennsylvania Region (Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, Westmoreland); or the applicant must currently attend an accredited institution of higher learning located in one of these 10 counties.
Applicants must fulfill the following:
- complete the application form;
- provide a letter of acceptance from an accredited university or college, along with high school transcripts, as well as university/college transcripts (if applicable), letters of recommendation from no fewer than two teachers, school administrators, work supervisors, clergy or other persons of authority; and
- author a 300-words, typed essay – “What do you aspire to achieve through your studies in Germany, and how do you hope to help enhance U.S.-German ties?”
The Scholarship Selection Committee consists of one representative from each of the GABC/Pittsburgh’s three founding firms – Ardex Americas, BKD, LLP and Cohen & Grigsby – as well as the sitting chair of the Pittsburgh Rotary Club Foundation and the sitting president of the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. Funds will be donated by GABC/Pittsburgh and be administered by the Pittsburgh Rotary Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable foundation which also separately provides six $1,500, one-time scholarships for high school seniors.
